Pick-Your-Own Blueberries

Fun for the Whole Family

I remember the first time I picked blueberries. It was like it was yesterday, the memory is so vivid. The feel of the ripe blueberries in my hand. The surprise at how easily they came off the shrub as I wiggled my fingers. The joy of tasting the tart sweetness bursting in my mouth. The experience surpassed anything I could have imagined. There is just something special about picking your own blueberries that makes you feel alive!

You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy the experience of picking your own blueberries. Round up a group of your family and friends and create your own new memories. It also is a great group event for women’s clubs, family or class reunions, and church groups.

Whether this is your first time or you have been doing this since you were little, experience it again! We invite you to come out to Seven Springs Farm and pick-your-own.

What to Expect

Our Blueberry Patch

Our blueberries are located at our Seven Springs Farm in Maynardville, TN. We enclose our entire one acre crop in 10 foot high netting to keep the birds out. Stop by our farm store and we’ll give you a bucket and take you out to the blueberry patch to show you the best way to pick blueberries. Feel free to taste the blueberries in the field to see which ones you prefer. That’s what we do. That is part of the experience.

Most everyone mixes and matches their varieties. But if you are a purist and want to stick to one variety, well that is just fine too.

When you are done, bring your bucket back to be weighed. You can pick as much or as little as you want. We’ll transfer your blueberries to a plastic bag and place it in a cardboard box so it will not get crushed in your car on your way home.

Blueberry Season: Late May and June

Our blueberry season starts in late May and goes through June. We have such a long season because all varieties do not fruit at the same time. Be sure to “like” us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter to get our updates on when the u-pick season begins each year.

18 Different Varieties

Yes, 18 blueberry varieties. Who knew there were so many! Most of them are Northern High Bush. They all taste different. Some are big and juicy. Some are tiny and bursting with flavor. Some have done well and some have not. We are still experimenting with which ones do best here in East Tennessee. Let us know if you have any favorites!

How to Pick Blueberries

To pick, wiggle your thumb and fingers around a cluster of blueberries. Just because they are blue, does not necessarily mean they are ripe. Blueberries get their sweetness, just like strawberries — from the sun in the last few days before they are picked. If they easily come off when you wiggle your fingers, then they are ready.
